Bitcoin Pizza Day celebrates the world most expensive pizza order. 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas!
Well, not really when you take it in context. Not by the value of bitcoin on the day it was ordered anyway.
On 22 May 2010 one bitcoin was only worth a fraction of a cent, those 10,000 BTC were worth roughly US$40. So when Florida resident and early Bitcoin miner Laslo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two Papa Johns pizza's he was really creating the initial real world transaction with Bitcoin setting it at an arbitrary value and making history at the same time.
Little did the crypto enthusiasts of the day know just how much that value would grow in the years ahead to become what it is today.
Arguably one of the most niche celebrations ever, Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated with enthusiasm to mark a key date in the history of Bitcoin.
